Meanwhile, EU Ambassador to Turkey Christian Berger called for a "thorough criminal investigation" of Khashoggi's death.
"As I explained to the European High Commissioner for Foreign Policy, Federica Mujerini, we call for a comprehensive criminal investigation into the incident," Berger said in a press statement during a visit to the ancient Aphs region of Izmir, western Turkey.
