The World Health Organization announced today, Thursday, that it is forming an independent committee to review its dealings with the Covid 19-disease pandemic, as well as the governments' response to the epidemic.
Director-General Tedros Adhanom Gebresos said - in a video conference with the 194 members - that the scale of the epidemic that affected nearly everyone in the world "deserves an appropriate, fair assessment."

"We will not be able to overcome the pandemic if we are divided," he said, warning that the "divisions" of the international community are contributing to the continuing spread of the epidemic.
He explained that the committee - to be formed by former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark and former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf - will submit an interim report to the annual meeting of health ministers in November, and then submit a "substantive report" next year.
The announcement came in the wake of strong criticism from the administration of US President Donald Trump, who accused the WHO of being "centered around China" and officially informed on Tuesday of its withdrawal within a year from the United Nations organization.
According to the latest Reuters count, more than 12 million people have been infected with the Corona virus worldwide, and 548,429 people have died so far.
